Does the AEA.lyx template compile for you?

The file compiles for me before a860d18b but not after. I wonder if
it's a difference of TeX Live 2013 vs. MikTeX, or perhaps something
specific to my installation.

It's working at my place with LyX 2.1.0 (commit
fde16219ca7860fdfe8adf171d109a7cce61e7b4) and TeX Live 2013.

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013/Debian)

multicol 2011/06/27 v1.7a vs. multicol 2004/02/14 v1.6e
and
setspace 2011/12/19 v6.7a vs. setspace' 6.7 <2000/12/01>

As a side note, if you happen to use Ubuntu and you would like to be
able to use tlmgr to update, you might be interested in
https://github.com/scottkosty/install-tl-ubuntu
next time you install Ubuntu.
In this case maybe it is an advantage not to update. You are the one
that is able to compile and I am not!

Can anyone with an up-to-date TeX Live installation confirm whether
they get an error? This way I will know if it is an issue with my
install or one of the package versions.

The error I'm getting is:

line 147.

Ah, good point. They bundle old versions of the .sty files they depend
on. It doesn't seem like good practice to do that. I will send them an
email.

This template still doesn't compile for me. If I modify xampl.bib such
that only the preamble and the first entry are left, and I insert a
reference to the first entry (article-minimal), I still get the error

! Undefined control sequence.

as before. If I then delete the preamble in the .bib file, the error
goes away and the document compiles correctly. Does the .bib @preamble
command override the part where \harvardpreambledefs is defiend?
