I'm using ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the default memory manager unity. I used the unity-tweak-tool to set the workspace settings - choose the Additional tab and set Focus mode to sloppy.

How do you set this in Ubuntu? Are you using the default window manager?
Unity or Gnome classic? Which Ubuntu version?

Thanks a lot for the quick reply and additional details, Eddie. I will
take a look at this and see if I can reproduce it. Next time, please
respond on the trac website so that we have all of the info in one
place. I pasted your response in there this time.

Best,

Scott

Hi Scott.

I think I have found the issue. But, first,
Eddie, how did you install 2.0.7 on your machine?
I uninstalled 2.0.7
Did you compile manually?
Yes.
You might consider trying LyX 2.2.dev from the daily PPA. For instructions,
see here: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXOnUbuntu#toc3
Thanks Scott I will definitely go this route.
Do you still see the issue?
Yes.

However, I am pretty sure the bug is in the particular mouse hardware or in the mouse driver used for this particular USB mouse because:
(1) LyX does NOT crash when I just use the mouse pad on the school's Lenovo T430 notebook. It only crashes when I plug in the USB mouse and use it. When I unplug the mouse the problem goes away again.
(2) When using the USB mouse, Emacs 2.4 freezes as I pull the mouse over its window. I have to use kill to get rid of the emacs process. No other application programs I've tried seem to be affected.
(3) I got another external mouse from school this morning and it works fine.

Sorry about this. I should have tried all this before I filed the bug report. Thanks again for the LyX2.2.dev instructions!

No problem. Hardware issues, software incompatibilities, etc, can be
hard to debug.

I agree. No need to apologize. And as for "should have tried it
before", I personally wouldn't have realized to check that. I have
never seen a faulty mouse driver in my decade of Linux use, and
certainly not one that causes a crash.

Thanks for the bug report, the follow-ups, and all of the details.
Please don't feel hesitant to give us more feedback on bugs or feature
requests. I'd rather err on the side of too many reports with a few
false positives than too few with some bugs that go unreported.

Best,

Scott

Thanks Richard and Scott! It was the mouse. When I plug the mouse into a Windows machine, it constantly connects and disconnects.
